Backstory:

As a young student, Elayne was that inquisitive kid who took things apart to understand how they worked. Her father’s encouragement to think independently fostered a highly analytical mindset that initially led her to follow in his footsteps by pursuing a career in engineering.

After a few years, however, Elayne recognized a void in her day-to-day routine. Although engineering made practical use of her analytical skills, it did not allow her to make the most of her other gifts — a caring heart and a genuine desire to help others.

Career in Finance:

In 1993, an opportunity arose for Elayne to make the leap to a large financial services corporation where she could help people map out their financial plans. Realizing she enjoyed helping people solve their planning questions, Elayne embarked on another educational journey to obtain an advanced understanding of the financial service industry. Within three years, she had obtained three of the most prestigious financial certifications: the Chartered Life Underwriter®, Chartered Financial Consultant®, and Certified Financial Planner® designations.ep210510bigger

Over time, Elayne’s detail-oriented planning skills became much in demand by high net worth insurance organizations.  These firms offered the most significant income potential, but she was dismayed by the industry’s questionable sales tactics and the push to scale every client into cookie-cutter models with little individualization.

In 2000, Elayne found FirsTrust and accepted the position of senior-level planner on the firm’s collaborative, fee-only FinancialTeam.  She quickly assumed responsibility for dozens of client relationships and continued to advance her education by obtaining another master’s degree: Master of Taxation (M.Tax).

After more than 20 years at FirsTrust, Elayne continues to take things apart: She analyzes the unique financial components of each client profile and finds new opportunities to make a real, positive difference for each and every one.

Personal note:

Elayne is a die-hard Tennessee Volunteers fan. She is active with non-profit organizations such as Best Buddies and Special Olympics. As an elder at her church, she volunteers her time in support of community-based programs that feed and house the homeless, promote international missions, provide music education and host performances, and raise funds for youth outreach.
